Michael Owen joined Harry Kewell on the scoresheet for the Liverpool FC Legends this afternoon at the Santiago Bernabeu when they faced the Real Madrid Legends. Harry Kewell was the first goalscorer with a cool strike in the 18th minute followed by a signature header from Michael Owen in the 23rd.
The charity match is the first ‘Official’ Liverpool FC Legends match against the legends of Real Madrid. The match was a complete sell-put with Liverpool FC and Real Madrid fans from over the globe gathering to watch the legends at Real Madrid’s home ground. The proceeds from today’s match go towards the club’s foundation charities.
The 2nd half saw Owen, Steve McManaman and Fernando Morientes swap for the respective sides as they had all played for both clubs during their playing career. Owen and McManaman were subbed in the 61st minute for the Spanish giants. The match ended 4-2 to Real Madrid.
The 2nd leg of the Legend’s match will be held at Anfield at some point in the future.
